The Magical World of Erich Sündermann

Here is another installment of fine work by Erich Sündermann of Vienna Austria. He is pretty frequent to sent he wonderful booklets especially after I informed him that my mother loves looking at his work. Often his work is like a surreal science fiction journey into his dream like worlds. Now I have been to the countryside in Austria and I have been to the fine city of Vienna and I can very much see how his surroundings influence him. I often feel since he doesn't get the chance to go out to often he creates his own worlds of wonder much like Henri Rousseau, though I often feel that his work reminds me a little but of the Austrian artist Hundertwasser. I will say recently thought that Erich's work reminded me a little bit of a somewhat obscure French animation film entitled Gandahar (1988) or also know as "Light years". Perhaps it doesn't do Erich's work justice comparing it to the film but for some reason the aspects that both seem to touch space and time in my mind led to a connection in my thought process. I also though of old old American and Soviet postage stamps commemorating space travel (which I found one old USA stamp and sent it to Erich on a postcard as a gift).

Well over all it is always a pleasure to receive these nice booklets from Erich Sündermann and they are a great addition to my mail art archives.
